Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stole the show as the India under-19 cricket team gained the upper hand against Australia U19 in the opening Youth Test at the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane on Wednesday.

The teenage sensation scored a blistering 113 off just 86 balls, peppering the Australian attack with nine fours and eight sixes. Alongside Vedant Trivedi, who scored 140, Sooryavanshi shared a 152-run partnership for the third wicket.

The 14-year-old Sooryavanshi, who represents Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, started aggressively, smashing a boundary off the very first ball and racing past 30 in quick time.

Vaibhav reached his fifty off just 37 balls by hitting a six in the 15th over. The century followed in only 78 deliveries, with a strike rate consistently above 130. He dominated the spinners, punishing consecutive deliveries with boundaries and sixes.

Vaibhav became only the second player to hit two centuries in U19 cricket in less than 100 balls after New Zealand’s Brendon Mccullum.

His innings eventually came to an end at 113, by which time he had propelled India U19 to a commanding 221/3, chasing Australia’s first-innings total of 243.

India were bowled out on 428 after taking a healthy 185-run lead.
