Rajasthan Royals put up a spirited effort but endured a tough night against the Mumbai Indians in their 11th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Thursday.

After electing to field first, the Rajasthan Royals put on a decent show but the Mumbai Indians went on to post 217/2 in 20 overs. Skipper Riyan Parag, who bowled two tidy overs for just 12 runs, finished as Rajasthan's most economical bowler.

In reply, the Rajasthan Royals’ chase began with promise but suffered early setbacks after Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal were dismissed early. The innings eventually folded on 117 in 16.1 overs.

Despite the loss, the match in Jaipur turned out to be a special one with the Royals taking the field in an all-pink jersey as part of their Pink Promise initiative, reaffirming their commitment to women-led transformation in Rajasthan.

The Pink Promise initiative, led by the Royal Rajasthan Foundation, focuses on enabling empowered women and driving sustainable change within communities.

As part of this initiative, ₹100 from every ticket sold for the Pink Promise Match will be donated towards women-centric development projects.

Additionally, for every six during the match, six homes in Rajasthan’s Sambhar region will be powered with solar energy. The match saw a total of 12 sixes being hit.

Earlier in the day, Mumbai Indians got off to a flyer with Ryan Rickelton (61) and Rohit Sharma (53) combining for 116 runs for the opening wicket.

Maheesh Theekshana (1/47) got the breakthrough in the 12th over with the wicket of Rickelton. Riyan Parag followed it up with the wicket of Rohit Sharma in the next over.

However, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya scored an identical 48 to help the Mumbai Indians post 217/2 - the joint highest total in the IPL at the venue.

Rajasthan Royals’ chase got off to a stuttering start as Vaibhav Sooryanvanshi, the youngest centurion in IPL history after his heroics against Gujarat Titans on Monday, fell to Deepak Chahar in the very first over.

Yashasvi Jaiswal counterattacked with a brisk 13 off just six balls, but his stay was short-lived. Rajasthan kept pace with the required rate, racing to 50 inside five overs. However, the team's 50 came at the cost of losing five wickets.

Jofra Archer’s resilient 30 off 27 in the end helped Rajasthan Royals cross the three-figure mark and end on 117.

Rajasthan Royals’ next match will be an away contest against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.
