Yashasvi Jaiswal completed 1000 runs in international cricket in 2024 during the second match of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka on Sunday.
Jaiswal, who plays for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, became the first player to achieve the feat this year and has a tally of 1023 runs from 18 innings at an average of 63.93.
The Indian cricket team, chasing a target of 78 in eight overs against Sri Lanka, rode on Jaiswal’s whirlwind start to complete a seven-wicket win with nine balls to spare. He scored 30 runs off just 15 balls to set the pace during the chase.
Jaiswal also shone in the first match, getting off the blocks quickly with a 21-ball 40, to help India post a mammoth 213/7 in their 43-run victory.
The left-handed opener was the second-highest run-scorer in the recently concluded T20I series in Zimbabwe with 141 runs from just three matches.
Jaiswal, who started the year with India’s historic Test match win at Cape Town against South Africa, finished as the highest run-scorer in India’s subsequent five-match Test series against England at home.
The 22-year-old Jaiswal amassed 712 runs from nine innings, including two double hundreds, against England at an average of 89.00. India won the series 4-1 and Jaiswal was adjudged the Player of the Tournament for his monumental efforts.
Apart from international cricket, Jaiswal also played in the IPL 2024 accumulating 435 runs from 15 innings for the Royals at a strike rate of 155.91.
