The India A captain added 62 runs with Manav Suthar before going on to combine with Akash Deep for a 75-run partnership.

While wickets fell around him, Jurel produced a composed knock. The 25-year-old was unbeaten on 99 at stumps on the opening day.

He brought up his hundred at the start of the second day before departing following a thick outside edge to second slip. Jurel’s knock helped India A post a challenging total of 346 in the first innings at Christchurch.

Jurel’s century against New Zealand A was his eighth in first-class cricket. He has also scored 16 fifties and has now amassed 2819 runs in 60 innings in the format.

Earlier this year, the wicketkeeper-batsman scored his maiden Test century outside India and also made a fifty against Sri Lanka.

Before that, Jurel captained India A to a 1-0 win over Sri Lanka A in a two-match unofficial Test series, finishing as his team’s standout batter with a century and a half-century across three innings.

Jurel and his Royals teammates Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja are also part of India’s Test squad for the New Zealand tour.
