Yashasvi Jaiswal added yet another record to his nascent yet flourishing Test career as he became the joint-fastest Indian to reach 2000 runs in the format during the second innings of the second Test against England at Edgbaston on Sunday.
The 23-year-old Jaiswal, who represents Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, reached the mark in just his 21st Test match and 40th innings.
Rahul Dravid, interestingly Jaiswal’s coach at the Royals, and Virender Sehwag, both legends of Indian cricket, also reached the 2000-Test runs milestone in 40 innings but took 25 matches each.
Both Gautam Gambhir and Vijay Hazare reached the milestone in 43 innings and 24 and 26 matches, respectively.

Australian legend Don Bradman holds the record for the fastest player to score 2000 runs in Test cricket globally, having reached the milestone in just 22 innings.
Having scored a matured 87 up top in the first innings at Edgbaston to set up the stage for India to put up a daunting 587 on the board, Jaiswal fell 10 short of taking sole possession of the record.
However, he scored 28 in the second innings to etch his name into the history books.
Trailing the five-match Test series 1-0, India hold a 244-run lead at stumps of the third day of the second Test. England were bowled out for 407 in their first innings while India are at 64/1.
Jaiswal, trapped LBW by Josh Tongue, was the only wicket to fall.
The southpaw had also scored a 101 off 144 balls in the first Test at Leeds albeit India ended up on the losing side.
It made him only the fifth Indian to score a century in his first Test innings in England. He joined an elite list that included Murali Vijay, Vijay Manjrekar, Sourav Ganguly and Sandeep Patil.
His ton in the last Test saw him create the unique feat of scoring centuries in his debut Tests in three different countries - the West Indies, Australia and England.
Jaiswal had also scored two double centuries during the home series against England last year.
The southpaw is coming off a fantastic 2024 season, which saw him score 1478 runs - the highest by any Indian last year and the most Test runs by an Indian opener ever.
He also hit 36 sixes in Tests in 2024, which was a new world record for a calendar year.
Jaiswal ended the year as the second-highest scorer in Tests behind a member of the original Fab Four in England’s Joe Root, who scored 1556 runs from 17 matches.
The left-handed opener was also part of the Indian squad which won the T20 World Cup 2024 and was RR’s highest scorer in IPL 2025.
