Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became the youngest centurion in men’s List A cricket after producing a breathtaking 190 off just 84 balls for Bihar against Arunachal Pradesh on the opening day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 in Ranchi on Wednesday.

Previously, Pakistan’s Zahoor Elahi (15 years and 209 days) held the record for the youngest centurion in List A cricket.

Aged 14 years and 272 days, Sooryavanshi brought up his maiden senior one-day hundred in astonishing fashion, racing to fifty off 25 balls before needing just 11 more deliveries to reach three figures.

He fell agonisingly short of equalling the record for the fastest List A century by an Indian, held by Punjab’s Anmolpreet Singh, who reached the milestone one ball quicker.

Sooryavanshi, who was retained by Rajasthan Royals for the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, however, progressed to score the fastest 150 in men’s List A cricket. He got to the mark in 59 balls to surpass South African ace AB de Villiers’ long-standing record of 64 balls, achieved against the West Indies in 2015.

The knock by Sooryavanshi on Wednesday, which included 16 fours and 15 sixes, came in just his seventh List A appearance. It was also Sooryavanshi’s first century in senior 50-over cricket.

Last year, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashed his maiden half-century in senior domestic 50-over cricket with 71 off just 42 balls for Bihar against Baroda in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The knock last year made Vaibhav Suryavanshi the youngest Indian batter to score a fifty in List A cricket and came a fortnight after he became the youngest Indian to debut in List A cricket at 13 years and 269 days.

Sooryavanshi’s meteoric rise has been one of the biggest sporting storylines of the year globally. He was the most-searched Indian on Google this year and the sixth overall.

His record-shattering IPL debut season with Rajasthan Royals - from smashing a six off his first ball to scoring a 35-ball century and earning the Super Striker of the Season award - catapulted him into global attention.

What followed was a historic campaign across age-group cricket, becoming the fastest batter to score a century in Youth ODIs.

At the Rising Stars Asia Cup earlier this year, he scored 144 off 42 balls for India A against UAE, smashing 11 fours and 15 sixes.

Earlier this month, the teenager hit an unbeaten 108 off 61 balls for Bihar against Maharashtra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Kolkata - becoming the youngest player to score a century in the tournament’s history.

Last month, Instagram also chose to spotlight Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s journey on its official page - making him only the second Indian cricketer after Virat Kohli to receive the honour.
