Shimron Hetmyer was at his brilliant, hard-hitting best once again as he smashed five sixes off a single over to lead his team to the final of a T20 league in Guyana on Wednesday.

Turning up for the local franchise, Hetmyer scored a match-winning 39 off just 10 balls at the Providence Stadium. Chasing a target of 126, Guyana found themselves in a spot of bother after being reduced to 42/3 in the ninth over.

Hetmyer, who represents the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, walked in to bat with Guyana needing 84 off 63 balls and proceeded to take the game away in the 10th over.

Facing Finn Allen in the 10th over, Shimron Hetmyer turned the game on its head, smashing five sixes off the New Zealander to seize control and propel Guyana towards victory.

After depositing his first maximum over long-on, the left-hander’s second six came after Odean Smith failed to catch the ball.

Hetmyer then struck the sight screen for his third six of the over before smashing the ball over mid-wicket next.

He went on to take a couple before ending the over with another huge six over deep mid-wicket, making it 32 of the 10th over. That brought down the equation to 51 runs needed off 60 balls for Guyana.

Despite being dismissed in the following over, the 28-year-old’s knock helped Guyana to a four-wicket win with 21 balls to spare as well as a spot in the final, where they will face Rangpur on Saturday.

Prior to his match-winning knock of 39 on Wednesday, Hetmyer had recorded scores of 13, 12 and 14 in the previous matches in the ongoing league.

He was also in fine form with Seattle in a T20 league in the USA recently, where he starred in a hat-trick of last-over wins for his team against the likes of New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Shimron Hetmyer made an unbeaten 97 against New York before scoring 64 not out and 78 not out against Los Angeles and San Francisco, respectively.

The powerful left-hander finished as Seattle's leading scorer after amassing 340 runs in eight matches at an average of 68.00 and a strike rate of 209.87.

Hetmyer has also been named in the West Indies’ squad for their five-match T20 series against Australia, starting on Monday.
