Yashasvi Jaiswal’s class was once again on display as he struck a counterattacking century to lead Mumbai’s fightback against Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 clash at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Tuesday.

The stylish 23-year-old left-hander, who began the day on 56, played with authority against both pace and spin to score 156 off 174 balls - his 17th first-class century in just 47 matches.

His innings was laced with 18 boundaries and came at a strike rate of 87.20. The knock helped the visitors make a strong start in their second innings after Rajasthan had declared at a commanding 617/6 in reply to Mumbai’s 254.

Jaiswal and Mursheed Khan added 149 runs for the opening wicket, blunting Rajasthan’s new-ball attack. The Mumbai opener reached his hundred in 120 balls and later brought up 150 off 172 before falling to left-arm spinner Kukna Ajay Singh, with Mumbai at 253/3.

In the process, Jaiswal also crossed the 1000-run mark for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, taking his tally to 1086 runs at an average of over 63 from 11 matches - with five centuries to his name. Earlier in the match, he had top-scored for Mumbai in the first innings with a fighting 67 off 97 balls.

Apart from his batting heroics in the match, Jaiswal also made an impact with the ball, claiming the wicket of Rajasthan’s top-scorer Deepak Hooda, who scored 248.

A regular in India’s Test setup since his debut two years ago, Jaiswal was the leading run-scorer in the West Indies series, amassing 219 runs at 73, including a 175 in Delhi. The knock in Delhi made him only the second batter after Graeme Smith to score seven Test hundreds as an opener before turning 24.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was also the Rajasthan Royals’ top scorer in IPL 2025 with 559 runs from 14 matches.

For the home side, Kunal Singh Rathore and Ashok Sharma, who are also part of the Royals set-up, also impressed.

Kunal Singh Rathore contributed with six catches in the first innings and a 31-run knock. Ashok Sharma, in only his second first-class match, picked up 3/76 by dismissing the experienced trio of Ajinkya Rahane, Siddhesh Lad and Sarfaraz Khan.

The Rajasthan vs Mumbai Ranji Trophy match ended in a draw.
