A power-hitting masterclass from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal propelled Rajasthan Royals to their best powerplay score in IPL history during their steep chase of 220 against Punjab Kings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Sunday.
Needing a flying start to stay in the game, Jaiswal wasted no time.
The left-hander cracked the first ball of the innings from Arshdeep Singh through midwicket for four and went on to plunder 22 runs off the opening over. There was no let-up from the other end either.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, fearless and fluent, took the attack to Marco Jansen, as the pacer conceded 16 in the second over.
Rajasthan brought up their team fifty in just 17 balls - the quickest team 50 of IPL 2025 so far - surpassing their own mark of 20 balls (3.2 overs) against Gujarat Titans earlier in the season.
Remarkably, the Royals’ first single - their first run that wasn’t a boundary or an extra - came only in the fifth over. Until then, all of their 67 runs had come exclusively via boundaries and wides.
The carnage was interrupted briefly when Harpreet Brar broke the opening stand by dismissing Sooryavanshi for a 15-ball 40 in the fifth over. The Royals were 76/1 at that point.
Sanju Samson, returning from injury, joined Jaiswal and guided the team to 89/1 at the end of six overs, officially registering Rajasthan Royals’ highest-ever powerplay score in IPL history.
This effort eclipsed their previous best of 87/0, also recorded at home against the Gujarat Titans earlier this season.
RR have crossed 80 in the powerplay on only two other occasions.
