Dhruv Jurel’s maiden Test century has earned high praise from Rajasthan Royals batting coach Vikram Rathour, who believes the innings could prove pivotal in the young cricketer’s career.

“At this stage of his career, this hundred is extremely important for Jurel. He is fortunate to get this opportunity with Rishabh Pant injured. But by scoring runs like this, he is consolidating his place,” Rathour said during an interview with the Times of India.

“When Pant returns, he will naturally come back as a wicketkeeper-batter; but if Jurel continues to bat the way he has been batting lately, he can push for a place purely as a batsman in the team.”

Jurel scored his maiden Test hundred for India last week during the first match of the IND vs WI Test 2025 series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batter crafted a brilliant 125 off 210 balls, hitting 15 fours and three sixes to help India reach 448/5.

Jurel’s first Test ton added to an impressive run of form in 2025. Earlier this year, he piled up 227 runs at an average of 75.66, hitting three half-centuries in four innings during India A’s tour of England.

He also struck a century against Australia A in a multi-day match at home last month and made 56 while captaining the team to victory in the second game of the series.

Having earned his maiden ODI call-up for India’s upcoming tour of Australia, Jurel’s rise continues at pace. The three-match ODI series against the world champions will begin on October 19.
