Rajasthan Royals made a dramatic entry into IPL 2026 playoffs after beating Mumbai Indians by 30 runs in their final league phase match of the season at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
The victory in the must-win match saw the Royals seal the fourth position in the IPL 2026 points table and set up an Eliminator clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the New International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on May 27.
After Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to field first, the Royals navigated through a rocky start to score 205/8 largely thanks to a fighting 38 by Dhruv Jurel and a quickfire 32 by Jofra Archer.
Archer was also at the centre of the Royals’ response with the ball as he picked up three crucial wickets to restrict MI to in the must-win match.

Sent in to bat first, the Royals made a good start with Yashasvi Jaiswal taking up the role of the early aggressor but the opener departed after scoring a brisk 27 off 17 balls while trying to go after Will Jacks in the fourth over.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi departed soon after as the teenager endured a rare off day and walked back for just four.
Royals captain Riyan Parag, back in the line-up after missing the last game with an injury, made a purposeful start but was undone after scoring 14 off 8 balls with Tilak Varma pulling off a blinder of a catch at long on off the final ball of powerplay.
With RR reeling at 54/3, Dhruv Jurel and Dasun Shanaka steadied the ship with a much-needed 45-run stand. Unfortunately, though, the partnership ended prematurely after Shanaka was run out in the 11th over with the Royals just short of 100.
Jurel looked to up the scoring rate and got some hefty blows in but failed to answer a Corbin Bosch yorker after scoring a mature 38 off 26 balls. Donovan Ferreira’s dismissal in the 16th over left RR struggling at 139/6.
Jofra Archer, promoted to No. 7, injected some much-needed impetus into the RR innings with a fiery 32 off 15 - his highest-ever IPL score - before his heroic knock was cut short by another Tilak Varma catch at the deep.
Ravindra Jadeja (19* off 11) and Nandre Burger (10* off 3), both back in the squad after sitting out the LSG match, finished with a bang to take the Royals past 200. The last five overs yielded 73 runs.
Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur each picked up two wickets for MI.
After his heroics with the bat, Archer struck with the ball in the very first over as he removed Rohit Sharma for a duck to give RR the perfect start.
The English ace returned for his second over to take Naman Dhir off the board while Burger struck to dismiss Ryan Rickelton, MI’s highest scorer this season. Sooryavanshi took a good catch after missing a run out opportunity one ball earlier.
Brijesh Sharma struck to get rid of Tilak Varma in the final over of powerplay to reduce the home team to 4/38.
With their team in trouble, Suryakumar Yadav and Will Jacks counter-attacked and took MI past the 100 mark before Yash Raj Punja finally broke the 63-run stand by having Jacks caught for 33.
Surya completed his fifty in 32 balls and found good company in captain Hardik Pandya at the other end, who played aggressively for his 15-ball 34 and substantially brought down the asking rate.
RR finally managed to end the damaging partnership in the 17th over by sending Pandya back to the dugout and it was again Archer who delivered the crucial breakthrough to finish with figures of 3/17 in his four overs.
Yash Punja dismissed Bosch in the very next over to tip the scale a little more in the Royals’ favour.
Burger taking a return catch to send Suryakumar Yadav back for 60 finally put the Royals in the driver’s seat in what was a topsy-turvy contest.
Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals, IPL 2026, brief scores: RR 205/8 in 20 overs (Dhruv Jurel 38, Jofra Archer 32; Shardul Thakur 2/41) beat MI 175/9 in 20 overs (Suryakumar Yadav 60; Jofra Archer 3/17) by 30 runs.
