New Zealand legend Kane Williamson believes India’s rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal has the potential to become part of cricket’s next ‘Fab Four’.
The Fab Four in cricket refers to a group of four batting superstars of the modern era who have earned reverence for their exceptional performances across all formats of the game, especially in Test cricket.
The term gained popularity in the early 2010s and the current generation of Fab Four, as per popular consensus, includes Williamson himself, Virat Kohli, Steve Smith and Joe Root.
However, with all four reaching the twilight of their careers, a new roster is expected to take their place as the torch-bearers of the new generation.
“The players that come to mind in terms of multi-format are: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rachin Ravindra, Harry Brook. And also Cameron Green,” Williamson told the Cricket Monthly magazine when asked to identify potential multi-format superstars of the next generation.
“Those are all outstanding players and have shown fantastic moments in all the formats. All young and their games are just growing,” he added.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was Rajasthan Royals’ top scorer in IPL 2025 with 559 runs from 14 matches at an average of 43 and strike rate of 159.71, is coming off a breakthrough year in international cricket.
After making his Test debut with a century against the West Indies in 2023, Yashasvi grabbed the cricketing world’s attention when he scored double centuries in two consecutive Test matches against England in a five-match series in 2024, making him just the third Indian to do so after Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli.
The 23-year-old’s exploits earned him a place in the ICC Men's Test Team of the Year 2024. He scored 1478 Test runs at an average of 54.74 and a strike rate of almost 70 last year.
His tally of 1478 runs in a year was the highest by an Indian in 2024 and the most by an Indian opener ever.
Yashasvi also hit 36 sixes in Tests in 2024, which is a new world record for a calendar year.
Interestingly, he ended the year as the second-highest scorer in Tests behind a member of the original Fab Four in England’s Joe Root, who scored 1556 runs from 17 matches.
The left-handed opener was also part of the Indian squad which won the T20 World Cup 2024.
Yashasvi is currently with the India squad for the upcoming five-match away Test series against England.
