The Indian men’s cricket team will be chasing a first Test series win on English soil since the historic triumph in 2007 under the captaincy of current RR coach Rahul Dravid. India won the three-match series 1-0 back then.
India came close in 2021, their last visit, but the series ended in a 2-2 draw.
Interestingly, both Jaiswal and Jurel, along with Royals pacer Tushar Deshpande, were also selected in the India A team for the tour to England. Jurel will be the vice-captain of the squad.
The India A team will play multiple first-class matches in England from May 30 to June 6, giving Jaiswal and Jurel an opportunity to acclimatise to the conditions.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is coming off a sensational IPL 2025 season with the bat as he top-scored for RR with 559 runs from 14 matches. Jurel notched up 333 in as many games.
Jaiwal also enjoyed a brilliant campaign with the national team in 2024. His tally of 1478 runs is the second-most by an Indian and the most by an Indian opener in any calendar year.
The young opener ended the year as the second-highest scorer in red ball cricket behind England’s Joe Root, who scored 1556 runs from 17 matches.
Scoring at an average of 54.74 and a strike rate of almost 70, Jaiswal hit 36 sixes in 2024, a new world record for a calendar year. He was later named in the ICC Men's Test Team of the Year 2024.
Dhruv Jurel, meanwhile, has featured in four Test matches for India so far - three against England and one against Australia - and boasts of a highest score of 90 against England in Ranchi. He currently averages 40.40 in red ball cricket.
He also made a strong impression during an unofficial Test against Australia A in Melbourne last year, scoring 80 and 68. Jurel made his international debut in a T20I against Zimbabwe last year.
The England vs India series will also mark the beginning of the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
