Emanjot Singh Chahal reached a career landmark in the Ranji Trophy 2026-27, registering his maiden first-class century for the Punjab cricket team against Assam in their opening Elite Group B fixture at New Chandigarh on Wednesday.
The hundred came in testing circumstances.
Replying to Assam’s first-innings total of 373, Punjab had slipped to 237/5, losing two wickets in quick succession, by the time Emanjot walked in.
Emanjot Singh Chahal and Salil Arora set about steadying the innings, adding 200 for the sixth wicket to pull Punjab back into the match. Chahal had ended the third day unbeaten on 28 before picking up on the final day.
The all-rounder, who had scalped two wickets when Punjab were bowling, carried on even after Arora was dismissed, completing his maiden hundred in the red ball format off just 132 balls.
Emanjot then hit Dipjyoti Saikia for two consecutive sixes before the match broke for lunch.
Punjab declared for 478/6 with Emanjot staying unbeaten on 114 off just 137 balls. He hit 10 boundaries and four sixes over the course of the innings, scoring at a strike rate of 83.21.
It was Emanjot’s fourth first-class appearance. His previous best in the format was 83, made against Karnataka in the last Ranji Trophy season.
Overall, Emanjot has now scored 219 runs in seven first class innings at an average of 54.75.
Emanjot Singh Chahal was one of six Rajasthan Royals players who were in action in the first round of matches in Ranji Trophy 2026-27.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tushar Deshpande featured in Mumbai’s win over Chandigarh, with the latter claiming a hat-trick and a fifer.
Ravindra Jadeja scored a century for Saurashtra against Chhattisgarh while Ravi Singh and Sushant Mishra turned up for Railways and Jharkhand, respectively.
Emanjot was drafted into the Royals squad as an injury cover during the IPL 2026 season. The 22-year-old is yet to make his IPL debut.
