Vice-captain Dhruv Jurel’s composed 94 added to India A’s imposing first-innings total of 557 in the first four-day match against England Lions at St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury on Saturday.

Dhruv Jurel walked in at 232/3 on the opening day on Friday and looked unruffled, finishing the day unbeaten on 82. He resumed his innings on Day 2 and added 12 more runs before falling to Ajeet Dale in the 95th over.

His 120-ball knock was laced with 11 fours and a six, and was part of a crucial 195-run stand for the fourth wicket with Karun Nair, helping India A close the opening day at a mammoth 409/3. Karun Nair top-scored for India A with 204.

This was Jurel’s 10th fifty in First-Class cricket. The 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batter has now amassed 1329 runs from 23 matches at an average of over 45.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who opened the innings for India A, contributed 24 runs at the top of the order.

As part of the tour, the India A team will play two first-class matches against the England Lions. The second match will start on June 6.

India A’s tour will conclude with an intra-squad match against the senior Indian men’s cricket team in Beckenham on June 13.

Dhruv Jurel has featured in four Test matches so far - three against England and one against Australia - and boasts a highest score of 90 against the English in Ranchi. He currently averages 40.40 in red ball cricket.

He also made a strong impression during an unofficial Test against Australia A in Melbourne last year, scoring 80 and 68.

Jurel contributed with a handy 333 runs for the Rajasthan Royals from 14 matches in IPL 2025.
