Former Rajasthan Royals player Jos Buttler has backed rising star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to eventually break his record as the leading run-scorer in T20 cricket history.
Jos Buttler surpassed West Indies great Kieron Pollard to become the format’s all-time leading run-scorer on Wednesday while playing for the Manchester franchise in England.
The England batter has now scored 14833 runs in 522 matches, including nine centuries and 106 fifties.
Jos Buttler spent seven seasons with Rajasthan Royals from 2018 to 2024, scoring 3055 of those runs for the franchise to become their second-highest run-scorer.
Reflecting on his achievement after reaching the top of the all-time T20 run-scoring charts, Jos Buttler said he was proud of the milestone but backed Sooryavanshi to surpass him one day.
"It's really cool, actually, to think you've got the most T20 runs out of anyone,” Buttler said in an interview with Sky Sports. “Someone will surpass it one day - and his name's probably [Vaibhav] Sooryavanshi - but it's a proud moment."

The prodigious Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who became the youngest player to win the IPL Orange Cap after scoring 776 runs in 16 matches in the 2026 season, is no stranger to rewriting record books himself.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became India's youngest men's international cricketer at the age of 15 years and 99 days during his T20I debut against England last month.
The left-hander then smashed a 19-ball 50 in the opening match of India’s subsequent T20I series against Zimbabwe, becoming the youngest player to score an international half-century at 15 years and 118 days.
Still only 40 games into his T20 career, the 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals opener has amassed 1670 runs at an average of 42.82 and a stunning strike rate of 216.32 - numbers that lend weight to Jos Buttler's prediction.
