Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his trend of setting new benchmarks as he broke the IPL record for most sixes by an Indian in a single edition during the Rajasthan RoyalsIPL 2026 match against Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday.

After the hosts asked the RR to bat first, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi wasted no time in making his presence felt.

The 15-year-old opener launched Lungi Ngidi for a six off the very first ball he faced and then took on veteran Mitchell Starc, striking two fours and a towering pull over the boundary as Rajasthan Royals raced out of the blocks.

Sooryavanshi was then ruthless against debutant Tripurana Vijay, smashing three fours and a six in a single over to surge into the 40s.

His third six of the innings took him past Abhishek Sharma’s tally of 42 maximums for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024.

The left-hander’s blistering knock ended on 46 off just 21 balls, studded with five fours and three sixes. He was dismissed in the eighth over when he mistimed a lofted drive to long-off, handing Tripurana Tiwari his maiden IPL wicket.

While Abhishek Sharma’s record came in 16 innings, Vaibhav took only 12 to reach the landmark.

He reached his 100 in 36 balls in the match, marking the second-fastest IPL century by an Indian. Vaibhav himself scored the fastest - in 35 deliveries - against GT last season.

Overall, the teenager has scored 486 runs in 12 matches this season and is the Royals’ highest run-scorer in IPL 2026 so far.

He also has two half-centuries this season - both coming in just 15 deliveries.
