Jasprit Bumrah led the Indian cricket team’s incisive bowling attack to steer his side to a thrilling six-run win over arch-rivals Pakistan in their second T20 World Cup 2024 match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday.

Player of the Match Bumrah registered excellent figures of 3/14 as Pakistan could manage only 113/6 in response to India’s 119. Hardik Pandya also played his part picking up 2/24 to help India pull off a nail-biting win.

Rishabh Pant top-scored in the match with 42 off 31 balls, which included six boundaries, as Axar Patel chipped in with an 18-ball 20. For Pakistan, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf shone with the ball as both ended with figures of 3/21.

Put into bat in tough conditions, India lost both their openers within the third over. But Pant and Axar scored some quick runs as India reached 50/2 at the end of the powerplay.

Pant continued playing his natural game hitting three boundaries in a Haris Rauf over though he kept losing partners at frequent intervals. But India slid to 96/7 as Mohammad Amir dismissed Pant and Ravindra Jadeja off consecutive deliveries in the 15th over.

India were all out for 119 with both Naseem and Rauf finishing with three wickets each.

In reply, Pakistan started carefully to reach 35/1 after the first six overs. India pulled things back with two quick wickets as Pakistan were reduced to 73/3 from 57/1.

India kept the pressure, giving away just 10 runs between overs 14 and 17 and picking two wickets as Pakistan required 30 off the last three. Bumrah showcased his death bowling prowess yet again conceding just three runs including a wicket in the penultimate over.

Pakistan could get only 11 runs in the final over as against the required 18 as India continued their unbeaten run in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

India are currently on top of Group A with four points from two matches. The Men in Blue will meet co-host USA in their next match in the T20 World Cup at the same venue on Wednesday.
