Shimron Hetmyer has been named in the West Indies squad for the T20 World Cup 2026, set to be played in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.

The 29-year-old left-handed batter is part of a 15-member squad and is set to feature at the T20 World Cup for the third time, having previously represented the two-time champions in the 2021 and 2024 editions.

A proven finisher, Hetmyer, who represents Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, has played 72 T20Is for the West Indies since making his debut in the format in 2018. He has scored 1,174 runs at an average of 20.59 and a strike rate of 128.72.

Most recently, he scored 62 runs from three matches against Afghanistan in Dubai last week at a strike rate of 206.66.

Hetmyer heads into the global showpiece on the back of a strong 2025 season.

Last year, Hetmyer starred in a T20 league in the USA, amassing 340 runs in eight matches at a remarkable strike rate of 209.87.

In IPL 2025, he contributed 239 runs for Rajasthan Royals at a strike rate of 145.73.

He also played a key role in helping his team lift a T20 franchise title in the UAE last month.

Overall, Hetmyer has featured in 312 T20 matches, scoring 6,115 runs at an average of 26.13 and a strike rate of 142.30.

Shai Hope will lead the West Indies at the T20 World Cup. The same squad will travel to South Africa for a three-match T20I series from January 27 to 31 as part of their build-up to the tournament.

The West Indies are slotted in Group C at the T20 World Cup alongside England, Nepal, Italy and Scotland.

Their first match at the tournament will see them square off against Scotland on February 7 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
