Shimron Hetmyer produced a batting masterclass on Friday night, hammering a 26-ball 65 to fire Guyana to an emphatic 83-run win over hosts Antigua and Barbuda in the ongoing T20 League in the Caribbean.

Hetmyer, who plays for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, walked in with Guyana at 64/2 in the 11th over and dismantled the opposition bowling attack with his trademark power-hitting.

Hetmyer added 106 runs in just 44 balls with Shai Hope, who top-scored with 82, and brought up his half-century in only 21 deliveries. His innings was laced with five fours and five sixes.

The West Indian power-hitter was particularly severe in the 19th over against Obed McCoy, smashing 4, 4, 6 off the last three balls.

His fireworks ensured Guyana finished with a commanding 211/3, having plundered 145 runs in the last nine overs of the innings. Antigua and Barbuda never came close in the chase as Guyana registered their second consecutive victory of the season.

The innings was another reminder of Hetmyer’s potential as one of the most destructive finishers in world cricket.

Earlier this year, he had produced similar heroics in a T20 league in the United States, where he finished as the leading run-scorer for Seattle with 340 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 209.87.

His run in the USA included an unbeaten 97 against New York and match-winning knocks of 64* and 78* against Los Angeles and San Francisco, respectively.

Hetmyer also chipped in with 239 runs lower down the order for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025 at a strike rate of 145.73.
