Put into bat first by Australia, Hetmyer walked into the middle in the 13th over with the score reading 123/2.
Hetmyer, who represents the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, reached the milestone at the start of the 16th over after dispatching Mitchell Owen for a six.
His knock was laced with two fours as well as three sixes and he was dismissed in the final over of the innings as the West Indies managed to post a total of 189/8.
However, Hetmyer’s quickfire knock went in vain as Australia chased down the target with three wickets and seven balls to spare.
Hetmyer has now scored 1021 runs in 65 matches at a strike rate of 123.16, including five half-centuries and a highest score of 81 not out against Sri Lanka.
His T20I average of 36.00 against Australia is his highest against any international opponent.
In terms of runs scored, Hetmyer’s 395 runs against India is the most he’s managed against any country. He has also hit three fifties against India and one against Australia in T20Is.
Overall, Hetmyer has scored more than 5500 runs in the T20 format at a strike rate of 140.74.
He is expected to be seen in action next on Wednesday against Australia in the second match of the ongoing series at Sabina Park.
