Karnataka have named pacer Prasidh Krishna in their 16-member squad for the first two rounds of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, which starts later this month
The Karnataka cricket team is placed in the Elite Group C of the Ranji Trophy, the premier domestic first-class tournament in India, and will kick start its campaign with an away match against Madhya Pradesh at Indore on October 11. The team will then host Kerala in the second round which starts on October 18.
Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bengal, Bihar and Punjab are the other sides in Elite Group C.
Prasidh, who plays for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, made a return to first-class cricket in the Duleep Trophy last month after a long layoff due to injury. He picked up three wickets for India A on the final day of the final round match to help his side beat India C and finish the tournament as champions.
The Karnataka pacer is also part of the Rest of India side that is playing against Mumbai in the ongoing Irani Cup 2024.
The 28-year-old Prasidh Krishna made his ODI debut in 2021 against England before representing the country in T20s for the first time in 2023. He also made his bow in Test cricket later that year featuring in both the Test matches in the tour of South Africa.
Prasidh Krishna has picked up 62 wickets from just 17 matches in first-class cricket at an average of 20.93 and an impressive strike rate of 41.80. He also has three five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket match haul to his name.
Mayank Agarwal will continue to lead the Karnataka side after helming the team during their quarterfinal run in the Ranji Trophy last season. Devdutt Padikkal and Vyshak Vijaykumar, Karnataka’s highest run-getter and wicket-taker, respectively in the previous season are also part of the 16-member team.
