RR win by 9 wickets

The Royals thumped the Mumbai Indians by 9 wickets with eight balls to spare as Jaiswal remained unbeaten at 104 off just 60 balls. Samson provided able support with 38 off 28 balls as both put together an unbroken 109 off 65 balls. The southpaw scored a 100 last year against MI but RR lost, this time around the circle is complete. Not to forget Player of the Match Sandeep Sharma's 5/18 which restricted the MI batting to 179/9. Trent Boult picked two while Avesh and Chahal chipped in with a wicket each. Buttler scored 35 as the Royals put in an all-round performance. What a way to cap off the home matches at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. The Royals pulled off their fourth win in five games at Jaipur to continue on top of the IPL 2024 points table with 14 points from eight matches.

2nd IPL century for Jaiswal 💯

18.1 overs: Gets there with a single and runs away to celebrate! Punches the air, looks skywards, and hugs his captain. When it's written in the stars, nothing else matters. A sensational knock from the Royals opener and it has come at a very, very good time for the youngster. Was dropped a few times and now the Mumbai Indians are paying heavily for it. Before this match, Yashasvi Jaiswal didn't have a single fifty to his name this season. And when he finally gets one, he goes on to convert it into a well-deserving hundred.

The cuts, the pulls, the hoicks, the dancing feet, the swivelling hands - it's been a complete exhibition of textbook batting from this 22-year-old and the crowd has loved every bit of it, his teammates and coaches have enjoyed it. He's gone after pace, he's taken spin apart and he's done it with the conviction of a man on a mission. RR 176/1.

RR need 29 from final five

Jaiswal leads the Royals' charge scoring 16 runs off Jasprit Bumrah's 15th over as they move on to 151/1 after 15 overs. Jaiswal is unbeaten on 87 off 48 balls, his highest score in IPL 2024. Samson gives him company with 24 off 18. The left-hander hits a four and a six to hand Bumrah his most expensive over in this IPL.

Sanju Samson completes 3500 runs for RR in IPL

12.1 overs: With that single, skipper Sanju Samson moves to 13 off 11 balls and completes 3500 runs for the Royals in IPL. He leads the all-time run-getters list for them and has been their batting mainstay for some time now. Has been in good form this season scoring three half-centuries from eight matches. The Royals want his calm head in the middle to complete this chase without any hiccups. RR 114/1.

Halfway through: RR 95/1

Royals score 95/1 from the first ten overs. They need 85 off the last ten to pocket the chase. Skipper Sanju Samson joins Jaiswal in the middle after Buttler is dismissed for 35 off 25 balls. Jaiswal looks set after his first fifty of the season.

50 for Yashasvi Jaiswal!

9.3 overs: It's taken him some time to find his rhythm in the tournament, but he'll be glad to get this one out of the way. Brings up his half-century in just 31 balls, his first of the season. Counters MI's spin attack by using his feet well and looks set for a big one tonight. The Royals dugout is up on its feet to appreciate this knock, you can see what it means to the entire team! RR 88/1.

Play to resume

The covers are off. Play to resume at 10.45 PM IST. No reduction in overs as the Royals will continue their chase with 119 required of 84 balls and ten wickets in hand.

Play stopped due to rain

There is a slight drizzle and hence a delay in proceedings at the centre. Looks fine as the covers are moving off and all set for play to continue. The covers are back again now and the players move out. The Royals well ahead in terms of the DLS par score of 41.

End of Powerplay: Royals at 61/0

Buttler and Jaiswal put together the highest opening partnership for the Royals in IPL 2024. Both end the first six overs at 61 without losing a wicket for the first time this IPL. Buttler moves to 28 off just 18 balls to complete 3500 runs in the IPL. This is the Englishman's ninth season in the IPL and has played a total of 103 matches including 24 games for today's opponent team, MI. Jaiswal is on 31 off 18 balls. This is the best powerplay effort by any team at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium this year as all bowlers except Jasprit Bumrah go for more than 10 runs an over. A total of 10 boundaries and a six came in the powerplay.

Royals off to good start

Jaiswal hit a six and two fours of Gerald Coetzee's first over, which costs 16, to help the Royals score 35 runs off four overs. Jaiswal at 19 and Buttler has 14, a good start to the chase.

Jos Buttler comes in, Royals require 180

Ya toh ye dosti gehri hai ya photo 3D hai. Out goes Yuzi Chahal, in comes Jos Buttler as the Impact Substitute as the Royals begin their pursuit of 180. Can he emulate his heroics from the last match and hit a third century in a chase this season? The Royals won't complain.

Sandeep finishes with a fifer!

20th over: Comes back into the Playing XI after an injury and straightway makes an impact. Captain Sanju tosses the ball to him for the final over and he repays with back-to-back wickets off the first two balls of the last over. Picks another of the fifth ball. Removes well-set Tilak Varma and big hitter Tim David along with Gerald Coetzee with clever variations in pace to bring the Royals back into the match. Ends with 5/18 off his four overs, his first fifer and the best figures so far in this IPL 2024. Two wickets with the new ball and three at the back-end, a captain's dream bowler. What a comeback! MI end first innings at 179/9.

Avesh gets Hardik

18.2 overs: Reviews unsuccessfully for a wide not given, gets trapped in front next ball, reviews that too but unsuccessful as replays confirm he's out. The MI captain has to depart and Avesh Khan gets his first fish of the night. It's been a tough outing for the pacer so far but he's kept his tail up and bowled his heart out. Huge wicket in the death! Avesh comes up with yet another brilliant over at the death conceding just six runs in the 19th over, without any boundaries, with big hitters around.MI 170/6.

Boult back in action

16.1 overs: Trent Boult sends Nehal Wadhera back for 49 and breaks the 99-run fifth-wicket partnership between him and Tilak Varma. Foxes him with a slower delivery and Sandeep Sharma makes no mistake at short third and takes a simple catch. MI 151/5.

5 overs remain: MI regroup to reach 131/4

Southpaws Nehal Wadhera (36 off 20 balls) and Tilak Varma (49 off 37 balls) fight back with an unbeaten fifth wicket stand of 79 off just 45 balls. MI sitting at 131/4 after 15 overs.

Ravichandran Ashwin keeps MI quiet

Ashwin finishes his quota of four overs for just 31 runs. Though he didn't pick a wicket he did not allow the MI batters to free their hands. He concedes only one four and a six off his 24 balls to finish his spell under 8 runs an over. MI 101/4 at the end of 13 overs.

Halfway stage: MI 72/4

Avesh Khan comes back to bowl a brilliant second over after getting hit for 18 runs in his first over. The Royals' bowlers restrict MI to 72/4 after 10 overs. Yuzvendra Chahal and Sandeep Sharma have three and two overs left respectively as the Royals look to keep MI under the pump.

Yuzvendra Chahal at Mount 200

7.2 overs: Chahal catches Nabi off his own bowling. A historic moment for Chahal as he scales an unbelievable milestone. The leggie becomes the first bowler to reach 200 dismissals in the IPL. In just his third season for the Royals, he has already picked up 61 wickets from 39 matches. He extends his wicket-taking run to eight consecutive games and is yet to go wicketless this season. Just how good and consistent has he been? First came to the Royals in 2022 and finished with the Purple Cap straightaway in his first season. Last year, he surpassed Lasith Malinga to become the all-time highest wicket-taker in the tournament. And this season, he's been on song match after match and has remained at the forefront of yet another Purple Cap race. But above it all, he continues to churn out those wickets just when his team needs them. MI 52/4.

End of Powerplay: Advantage Royals; MI 45/3

Did Hardik Pandya misread the pitch? Or did Sanju Samson anticipate it behaving the way it has been so far? Only time will tell which captain read it better. But for now, the Royals have drawn first blood with 3 quick wickets and they are on top at SMS, their fortress for a reason. Pacers Sandeep Sharma picks up 2/4 off two overs and Trent Boult has 1/22 from three as MI move to 45/3 at the end of six overs with big-hitters Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav back in the hut. Mohammad Nabi and Tilak Varma are left with repairing the MI innings.

Sandeep strikes again

3.1 overs: Sandeep Sharma sends the dangerman Suryakumar Yadav back as MI are reduced to 20/3. Tries to go over the infield but goes straight up and Rovman Powell at mid-on makes no mistake. Sandeep Sharma is having a dream comeback to the team.

One brings two

1.3 overs: And rightly so. Snickometer confirms the edge - just the right call from captain Sanju to go upstairs after Ishan Kishan nicks one behind. The MI openers are back in the hut and the Royals are off to a flyer... Welcome back, Sandeep Sharma! MI 6/2.

Powerplay Boult strikes first up!

0.5 overs: Trent Boult strikes yet again in the first over as Sanju Samson takes a skier to send back Rohit Sharma for six. MI 6/1. Boult picks up his fourth wicket in the first over in IPL 2024 and 26th overall, the highest in the history of the tournament.
