Rajasthan Royals rode on an explosive opening stand to beat Mumbai Indians by 27 runs in a rain-curtailed match at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday and registered their third straight victory of the IPL 2026 campaign.
The victory lifted the Royals back to the top of the Indian Premier League 2026 points table with three wins from three.
The inaugural champions are still unbeaten this season, having brushed aside Chennai Super Kings by a handy eight wickets in their season opener before edging Gujarat Titans by six runs in the previous game.
After several rain interruptions, the match eventually commenced as an 11-over-a-side contest.
Hardik Pandya, returning as the MI captain after missing the last match due to illness, won the toss and elected to field first.
Yashasvi Jaiswal began the innings with a bang as he hit Deepak Chahar for four boundaries and a maximum to extract 22 runs off the very first over.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi welcomed Jasprit Bumrah to the attack by dispatching the ball over mid-on. Two balls later, the ball disappeared over deep square leg.

Trent Boult’s introduction in the third over offered little respite as Sooryavanshi and Jaiswal combined for 22 again.
At the end of the truncated 20-ball powerplay, the Royals were at 59/0.
The onslaught slowed slightly after the field restrictions were lifted but both Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi continued to pepper in the boundaries.
Mumbai finally managed a breakthrough after Sooryavanshi found Tilak Varma while trying to smash Shardul Thakur for a six to end the fifth over.
The 15-year-old Vaibhav departed for 39 off 14 balls, garnished with five sixes and one boundary.
MI found another quick breakthrough in the very next over, with AM Ghazanfar trapping the in-form Dhruv Jurel LBW.
Unperturbed, Jaiswal carried on and reached his 17th IPL fifty off 23 balls. He eventually finished unbeaten on 77 from 32 deliveries, hitting four sixes and 10 boundaries.
The opener anchored the Royals’ innings, leading the home team to a total of 150/3 in 11 overs. Captain Riyan Parag also chipped in with a nifty 10-ball 20.

Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya tried to steady the ship but Ravi Bishnoi’s introduction in the fifth over saw both walk back, leaving MI staring down the barrel at 46/5.
Impact Player Sherfane Rutherford got some meaty blows in, injecting some impetus to the MI innings before Tushar Deshpande sent him back for an eight-ball 25.
Naman Dhir’s defiant knock also ended on 25 as he became Burger’s second victim of the night.
The MI innings stuttered to 123/9 in the allotted 11 overs as all five RR bowlers used on the night registered on the wickets column.
Rajasthan Royals will host reigning Indian Premier League champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the ACA Stadium next on Friday.
