The Royals’ and the Knight Riders’ first meeting dates back to May 1, 2008, in the inaugural edition of IPL. The Royals won the match by 45 runs, their highest victory margin by runs, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Swapnil Asnodkar was adjudged the Player of the Match for scoring 60 off just 34 balls, which included 10 fours and a six. Shane Watson, Sohail Tanvir and Siddharth Trivedi took two wickets each for the Royals.
Rajasthan Royals’ nine-wicket win at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in IPL 2023 is one of their biggest wins against the Knight Riders. Yashasvi Jaiswal top-scored for the Royals with an unbeaten 98 off only 47 balls hitting 12 boundaries and five maximums en route to becoming the Player of the Match. Yuzvendra Chahal was the best bowler picking up four wickets for the Royals.
Interestingly, the Royals and the Knight Riders have been involved in two tied matches against each other in the IPL. In their 2009 duel, the Royals notched up 150/6 only to see the Knight Riders end up with the same total, making way for the first-ever Super Over in the history of the IPL.
Yusuf Pathan, who top-scored for the Royals with a 21-ball 42 and Kamran Khan, who picked up three wickets during the Knight Riders chase held their nerve to carry the Royals home in the one-over eliminator. Pathan scored the required 16 runs off just four balls hitting two sixes and a four.
In IPL 2014, the Royals and the Knight Riders were involved in yet another humdinger, with the Super Over too ending in a tie. Batting first, the Royals scored 152/5 on the back of Ajinkya Rahane’s 72 off 59 balls.
James Faulkner took 3/11 to restrict the Knight Riders to 152/8. The ensuing Super Over also ended in a stalemate with both teams scoring 11 from six balls. The Royals were declared winners of the contest as they had a superior boundary count with 17 fours and a six compared to Knight Rider’s 12 fours and two maximums.
The Royals notched up their highest total against the Knight Riders in IPL 2024 scoring 224/8 in their two-wicket win at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Jos Buttler top-scored for the Royals with an unbeaten 107 off 60 balls, hitting nine boundaries and six sixes. Buttler was adjudged Player of the Match for guiding Royals to equal the highest successful run chase in the IPL. This is also the best individual effort by a Royals batter against the Knight Riders.
Yuzvendra Chahal's 5/40 in the Royals' seven-run win against KKR at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai during IPL 2022 remains the best bowling effort by a Royals bowler against the Knight Riders.
Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders have played each other six times at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur with both teams winning three each.
