Rajasthan Royals cricketer Nandre Burger got his first contract with Cricket South Africa this week after his exploits in the multi-format series against India last year.

Nandre Burger made his debut for the South Africa cricket team in the third T20 International against India last December picking up 1/39 in his four overs. After his T20 bow, he also went to make his One-Day International and Test debut during the tour.

In the three ODIs, the 28-year-old Burger picked up five wickets averaging 25.80 at an economy of 5.22, including figures of 3/30 in 10 overs in the second match.

Burger made an instant impact in the longer format picking up seven wickets in his first Test against India. His career-best figures of 4/33 in the second innings guided South Africa to an innings victory.

Burger also picked up four wickets in the second match to end as the second-highest wicket-taker in the two-Test series with 11 scalps, one behind India’s Jasprit Bumrah. Nandre Burger plies his trade for Western Province in South Africa’s domestic circuit.

Making his debut in the Indian Premier League for the Rajasthan Royals last week, Burger picked up his first wicket in the competition to start on a winning note, against Lucknow Super Giants, with figures of 1/30 off three overs.

Rajasthan Royals meet Delhi Capitals in their next match of IPL 2024 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday.
