Lhuan-dre Pretorius struck a quickfire century for South Africa A during the third game of a three-match unofficial ODI series against India A at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday.

After losing the toss and being put into bat first, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who has been retained by the Rajasthan Royals for the IPL, produced a scintillating innings, smashing 123 off 98 balls at a strike rate of 125.51.

He struck nine fours and six sixes during his knock that saw him put on a 241-run stand for the opening wicket with fellow centurion Rivaldo Moonsamy (107 off 130 balls).

After opening his account with a crisp four off Khaleel Ahmed, Lhuan-dre Pretorius grew in stature, peppering the boundary with authority at regular intervals as India’s bowlers failed to rein in the free-flowing left-hander.

He raised a fluent fifty off just 39 balls with a towering slog-sweep over midwicket in the 13th over before steering the Proteas past the 100-run mark three overs later.

The powerful left-hander brought up his century in the 33rd over as the Proteas surged past 200.

Pretorius inflicted further punishment two overs later, launching Ayush Badoni for three consecutive sixes before finally falling in the 38th over moments after fellow opener Moonsamy had also departed. By then, South Africa were cruising at 242/2, firmly in control of the contest.

Pretorius’ latest knock adds to his burgeoning reputation for South Africa in 2025, which has been a breakout year for the left-hander.

Earlier this year, Lhuan-dre Pretorius announced himself on the international stage by becoming the youngest South African to score a Test century on debut in June.

At just 19 years and 93 days, Lhuan-dre Pretorius reached his maiden hundred in 113 balls and went on to hammer 153 off 160 against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.

Lhuan-dre Pretorius also became the youngest player in Test history to score 150 on debut, breaking a record previously held by Pakistan’s Javed Miandad, who was 19 years and 119 days old when he scored 163 against New Zealand in 1976.

The 19-year-old also hit a fifty on ODI debut, smashing 57 off 60 balls against Pakistan in the first game of a three-match series earlier this month.
