England fast bowler Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the national team’s upcoming ODI series against the West Indies due to an injury to his right thumb.
Archer, who represented Rajasthan Royals in the 2025 Indian Premier League season, picked up the injury during the RR’s fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 4.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that Archer will be monitored over the next two weeks, with his recovery timeline yet to be determined.

The 30-year-old Archer was initially slated to return to England colours for the three-match ODI series starting May 29. In his absence, Luke Wood has been added to the squad.
The England vs West Indies ODI series concludes on June 3. Archer was not named in the squad for the T20I series against the Windies, which starts on June 6.
Archer had a decent run in IPL 2025, featuring in 12 games for the Royals and picking up 11 wickets. He was also one of the quickest bowlers in the tournament, clocking a 152kmph delivery – the second fastest in IPL 2025 so far – in the match against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.
Since making his ODI debut in 2019, Archer has taken 54 wickets in 31 matches at an average of 26.31 and was a key figure in England’s 2019 World Cup-winning campaign. He finished as England’s top wicket-taker in the 2019 World Cup with 20 scalps in 11 matches at an average of 23.05.
Archer, in fact, played all of England’s 2019 World Cup matches and even bowled the famous Super Over against New Zealand in the final.
Archer was also part of England’s Champions Trophy squad earlier this year.
