During his India tour in February, Ed Sheeran - known for global hits like Shape of You and Perfect - paid a visit to a cricket academy in Bengaluru, where he was joined by Riyan Parag and Tushar Deshpande.

There, Ed Sheeran was also presented with a custom Royals jersey bearing the legendary Shane Warne’s iconic No. 23 during the visit. Warne was a friend of Sheeran.

Warne is a Royals legend and led the team to the Indian Premier League trophy in the inaugural season in 2008.

As a special tribute to his late friend, who passed away in 2022, Sheeran decided to wear the same jersey as he traded his signature guitar for a bat and engaged in a fun game of cricket with Riyan, Tushar and the young trainees of the institute.

During the session, he also managed to impress both Riyan Parag and Tushar Deshpande with his skills with the willow. Before wrapping up his visit, Sheeran gifted Ipswich Town Football Club jerseys to Riyan and Tushar as a token of sporting camaraderie.

Ed Sheeran is a shareholder and lifelong fan of the Premier League club. Sapphire, the third single from Ed Sheeran’s Play album, is drenched in Indian influences and also features vocals from Arijit Singh, who joins Sheeran both in the track and on screen.
