Dhruv Jurel’s young career has already earned him a rare distinction for the Indian cricket team.

With seven wins in his first seven matches, Jurel is the first Indian cricketer to start his Test career with such a long unbeaten streak, surpassing the previous record held by pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who won his first six matches in the format.

The overall record is held by West Indian Eldine Baptiste, who played 10 Tests between 1983 and 1990 and won all of them.

The 24-year-old Indian wicket-keeper batter, who plays for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, made his debut against England in February 2024 at Rajkot, scoring a composed 46 in his very first innings.

Since then, Jurel has scored 430 runs in 11 innings at an average of 47.77 while impressing with his glovework behind the stumps.

Jurel’s highest score in the format is 125 - also his maiden Test century - which came against the West Indies at Ahmedabad, in the recently-concluded two-match series, which India swept 2-0 with the classy wicketkeeper-batter featuring in both.

His previous highest score came was 90 against England at Ranchi back in 2024. With India struggling at 177/7, Jurel put together important partnerships with Kuldeep Yadav, Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj, to help his team cross 300..

He followed it up with an unbeaten 39 in the second innings, steering India to a five-wicket win and earning the Player of the Match award.

He was also part of India’s historic victory against Australia in Perth later that year and contributed with a fighting 39 during the final Test against England at The Oval in 2025.

Jurel’s wicketkeeping has been just as impactful. Standing in for the injured Rishabh Pant during the 2025 England vs India Test series, he took crucial catches at Lord’s and Manchester before starting for the team at The Oval.

Overall, Jurel has taken 14 catches and affected two stumpings in Test cricket.
