Dhruv Jurel continued his fine run of form for India A with a gritty half-century on the opening day of the second unofficial Test against England Lions in Northampton on Friday.
Walking in at 126/3 in the 34th over, the 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batter looked composed from the outset. He saw off a probing spell from Chris Woakes and then opened up with a confident boundary off Eddie Jack in the 38th over.
Jurel combined well with KL Rahul to steady the innings. The duo batted through to tea, pushing India A to 213/3 at the break. The final session began with intent as Jurel struck back-to-back boundaries and brought up his fifty in 66 balls with another four shortly after.
Jurel’s fluent stay at the crease ended on 52, with him being bowled by George Hill in the 60th over. His knock, studded with seven boundaries, marked his third successive fifty in the series and 12th overall in First-Class cricket. He now has 1,434 runs from 24 matches at an impressive average of over 45.
The right-hander had scored 94 and 53 in the two innings of the first unofficial Test.
Last year, Jurel was among India A’s standout performers in the unofficial Test series against Australia A in Melbourne, where he posted scores of 80 and 68.
