Jos Buttler will continue as the England cricket team’s white-ball captain in the home series against Australia.

England, on Monday, announced separate 15-member squads for three T20s and five ODIs, their last assignment at home in 2024, against Australia from September 11.

Buttler led England to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024 held in the USA and the West Indies in June. Buttler, who plays for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, was also England’s top-scorer in the showpiece event with 214 runs from seven innings at an average of 42.80 and a strike rate of 158.51.

England have given maiden call-ups to Jacob Bethell, Josh Hull and Dan Mousley with Bethell and Mousley finding a place with their strong showing at the T20 Blast and The Hundred. Hull, who was named as a replacement for Mark Wood in the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka a couple of days ago, is now part of the white-ball set-up too.

However, Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Chris Jordan and Tom Hartley who were part of England’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad missed the cut in both the T20 and ODI teams.

Jos Buttler makes a return to competitive cricket after a calf strain that forced him to be out of action from The Hundred. Apart from Buttler, pacers Jofra Archer and Reece Topley, spinner Adil Rashid and batters Phil Salt and Will Jacks are among the 10 players who will be part of both the T20I and ODI teams.

Meanwhile, Harry Brook, Ben Duckett, Gus Atkinson, Jamie Smith and Matthew Potts who are all part of the England Test squad in the ongoing Sri Lanka series will join the team in the ODI leg.

The Australian tour will start with the T20Is with the first match scheduled on September 11 in Southampton. The second and third T20Is will be held at Cardiff and Manchester on September 13 and 15, respectively.

The England vs Australia ODI series will kick off on September 19 at Nottingham with the fifth and final ODI slated for September 29 at Bristol.
