Fazalhaq Farooqi has been named in the 17-member Afghanistan cricket squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. The tournament, played in the T20I format, will be hosted by the UAE from September 9 to 28.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced the squad on Sunday.

In the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, he emerged as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets in eight matches - including a career-best 5 for 9 against Uganda - spearheading Afghanistan’s historic march to the semi-finals.

Farooqi has also played 12 IPL matches to date.

Afghanistan, to be led by Rashid Khan, have been drawn in Bangladesh, Hong Kong China and Sri Lanka in Group B for the 2025 Asia Cup.
