Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will look to bring his big-match mentality to the fore when East Zone take on South Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2026 final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from Sunday.

The Duleep Trophy final, which will take place over five days, is scheduled to start at 9:30 AM Indian Standard Time (IST).
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who was Rajasthan Royals’ leading scorer and the Orange Cap winner in the Indian Premier League last season, has already made his presence felt in the ongoing Duleep Trophy campaign.
In the semi-finals against Central Zone, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became the youngest player to score a fifty in Duleep Trophy history.
The left-handed batter scored 92 off 81 balls and reached the landmark at just 15 years and 157 days.
He broke a record that had stood for 57 years. Laxman Singh was the previous youngest Duleep Trophy half-centurion, having achieved the feat at 16 years and 23 days in 1969.
Heading into the final, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who became the youngest Indian to play international cricket earlier this year, will look to draw on his big-match mentality against South Zone.
The 15-year-old opener rose to the occasion in high-pressure contests for Rajasthan Royals during last season’s IPL playoffs.
He struck a 29-ball 97 in a Player of the Match performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator before scoring 96 off 47 balls in the Royals’ Qualifier 2 defeat to Gujarat Titans.
It wasn’t the first time that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi starred in high-stakes contests, having also hammered 175 off just 80 balls to help India beat England in the U19 World Cup 2026 final in February.
However, the 2026 Duleep Trophy final will be East Zone vice-captain Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s first appearance in the summit clash of a senior red-ball cricket tournament.
