Shimron Hetmyer has been named in the 15-member West Indies squad for the five-match T20 2026 series against India, starting in Lucknow on October 6.
Hetmyer, who represents theRajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, will join the West Indies cricket team for the T20I leg on the back of some impressive performances in the Caribbean T20 league.
The 29-year-old finisher scored 367 runs from 12 innings in the recently concluded tournament at an average of 45.87 and a strike rate of 197.31. His campaign included two centuries and 29 sixes.
He first smashed an unbeaten 111 off just 43 balls against Trinbago in Port of Spain before following it up with 102 not out from 45 deliveries against Jamaica in Qualifier 2.
The two hundreds took Hetmyer to three centuries in his T20 career, while he also crossed the 7000-run landmark during the tournament.
Shimron Hetmyer has also enjoyed a productive year in West Indies colours.
He was one of their standout batters at the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, scoring 248 runs in seven matches at an average of 41.33 and a strike rate of 186.47. His tally included two half-centuries.
Most recently in T20Is, Hetmyer scored 85 runs across three matches against Sri Lanka in June, striking at over 157 during the series.
The left-hander has played 85 T20Is for the West Indies since making his debut in 2018, scoring 1678 runs at an average of 24.67. He has nine half-centuries in the format.
Hetmyer has also returned to the West Indies ODI set-up this year as part of the team's preparations towards the 2027 ODI World Cup.
He featured in the final two matches of the five-game ODI series against New Zealand in July, scoring 95 runs at an average of 95.00. Hetmyer followed a 26-run innings with an unbeaten 69 off 64 balls in the series finale to help West Indies complete a two-wicket victory in Bridgetown.
The unbeaten 69 earned Hetmyer the Player of the Match award.
Overall, Hetmyer has scored 1638 runs from 59 ODIs at an average of 32.76, including five centuries and five half-centuries.
Hetmyer has been rested for the three-match ODI series against India and will join the touring party for the subsequent T20Is.
Shai Hope will captain the West Indies in the T20I series, with Rovman Powell, Romario Shepherd, Roston Chase and Sherfane Rutherford among the experienced players in the squad.
The five-match series begins in Lucknow on October 6 before moving to Ranchi on October 9 and Indore on October 11. Hyderabad will host the fourth T20I on October 14, with the final match scheduled in Bengaluru on October 17.
