A long-time sports enthusiast, Violet Akisa has always found joy in staying active and taking on new challenges - and her latest discovery has been cricket.
Her interest in the sport began while watching matches on television, captivated by the excitement and celebrations of professional players. When a friend told her about the NEOM x Rajasthan Royals Women’s Cricket Program, Violet decided to join a training session. “For the love of sport, I wanted to learn. Once I started playing, I realised how much fun and teamwork the game brings.”
Since joining, cricket has been a grounding presence and brought positivity into her daily life. It keeps her physically fit, boosts her energy, and helps her unwind after work. “After a long day, playing cricket makes me feel light and happy,” she says. In fact, one of my team colleagues has described the experience of learning to play as ‘happiness in full gear’.
One of Violet’s proudest moments came when her bowling struck the wickets during a match, a feeling she describes as incredible. She also treasures the opportunity she had to play alongside male players in the leadership programme, where she learned more about technique and teamwork.
Violet believes the future of women’s cricket in NEOM is bright. “More women are joining and it's amazing to be part of something that inspires others to get involved.”
“Every time I step on the field, I feel lighter, happier - like I’ve found a new part of myself.”
