After a slow start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, Rajasthan Royals’ Yashasvi Jaiswal hit form with a match-winning century against the Mumbai Indians in Jaipur on Monday. The knock also saw the young opener leapfrog India legend Rahul Dravid to become the Royals’ fifth-highest run-scorer of all time.
Since joining the Royals in 2020, Yashasvi Jaiswal has already scored 1,397 runs in 45 IPL matches for the Royals at an average of 32.48 and a strike rate of just over 150.
The 22-year-old Jaiswal has two centuries and eight fifties to his name. His highest score in the IPL is 124, scored against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede in the 2023 season.
His second century, an unbeaten 104 off 60 balls, also against the Mumbai Indians this Monday, saw him go past Rahul Dravid, the current head coach of the Indian men’s national cricket team, and enter the top five in Rajasthan Royals’ top scorers’ charts.
Dravid played 52 matches in the Royals jersey between 2011 and 2013 and scored 1,324 runs for the Jaipur-based team at an average of 27.02 and a strike rate of 108.88. His tally included seven half-centuries and a highest score of 66.
With 3,717 runs in 138 matches, captain Sanju Samson leads the run-scoring charts for Rajasthan Royals. He averages 31.50 and boasts a strike rate of just under 140.
Ajinkya Rahane, who raked in 3098 runs in 106 matches for the Royals, is second in the list followed by opener Jos Buttler (2981 runs in 79 matches) and Shane Watson, who accumulated 2474 in 84 outings for the Rajasthan outfit.
Following Monday’s win, Rajasthan Royals currently top the IPL 2024 points table with seven wins in eight games.
