The Rajasthan cricket team will begin its Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 campaign against Maharashtra in Mumbai on Saturday.
Rajasthan are in Group B of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the premier domestic 50-over tournament in India. Maharashtra, Services, Railways, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Meghalaya and Sikkim are the other seven teams in Group B.
Each team will play once against all other teams in the same group in a single round-robin format during the league phase. The top-ranked teams from each of the five groups along with the best second-placed team will directly qualify for the quarter-finals.
The other four second-placed teams meet in the preliminary quarter-finals with the winners filling the last two spots in the quarters.
Rajasthan will play a total of seven matches, five in Mumbai and one each in Navi Mumbai and Vizianagaram.
Mahipal Lomror, who scored a triple century in the Ranji Trophy earlier this year, will look to carry his form in List A cricket. He scored 156 runs in seven matches at the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 at an average of over 36.
Left-arm spinner Manav Suthar will be the vice-captain. Deepak Hooda, Rahul Chahar and Deepak Chahar, who have represented India in international cricket, are also part of the 20-member squad.
The 32nd edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy will see 38 teams compete for the title. The teams have been split into five groups - A to E. The tournament will conclude with the final on January 18.
