Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was thrust into the spotlight after his explosive 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025 — a knock that not only made him the league’s youngest centurion but also sent his phone into meltdown with over 500 missed calls.
The 14-year-old Rajasthan Royals batter became an overnight sensation, marking a dream debut season with 252 runs in seven matches at a blistering strike rate of 206.56 and an average of 36.00.

“I was practising hard for three to four months and the results showed. My weaknesses improved and that made things easier for me during matches,” Sooryavanshi told RR head coach Rahul Dravid in a video posted by the IPL website on Tuesday.
Sooryavanshi once again proved his maturity beyond years in Rajasthan Royals’ final match of the season — a six-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday. Adapting to the demands of the chase, he crafted a composed 57 off 33 balls, showing he’s more than just a power-hitter.
“I learned to be focused and that I need to play according to the situation that the team is in to help them win,” Vaibhav explained. “At this level, it is important to focus on your own strengths and help the team win according to the situation.”
A grounded young man with his feet firmly on the ground, Sooryavanshi admitted he is not one to seek the spotlight. He shied away from the overwhelming attention that followed his record-breaking century against Gujarat Titans.
“There were more than 500 missed calls but I switched off the phone. A lot of people approached me after the century. I kept my phone switched off for two to four days as I don't like having too many people around. Just my family and a few friends, that's enough," Vaibhav said.
Dravid praised the youngster for his breakthrough campaign but also reminded him of the challenges ahead.
“Well done, very good season, continue to work hard and remember that you’ve done well this year, which means all these bowlers will return better prepared to bowl to you next year. So you also need to prepare more and develop your skills,” Dravid advised Sooryavanshi.
