Shimron Hetmyer has been selected for the West Indies ODI cricket team for the upcoming 2026 series against Sri Lanka scheduled from June 3 to 8 in Jamaica.

The left-hander, who represents Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, last featured in ODIs against England in June 2025 and has missed West Indies’ 50-over engagements against Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand since then.

However, the 29-year-old, however, will link up with the squad only ahead of the third and final match of the WI vs SL ODI 2026 series on June 8.

Hetmyer’s return comes on the back of an impressive ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign earlier this year, where he scored 248 runs in seven matches at an average of 41.33 and a strike rate of 186.46.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed that Hetmyer’s inclusion is part of their long-term plans leading into next year’s 50-over World Cup.

“Following his impressive performances during the recent ICC Men's T20 World Cup, Shimron Hetmyer has been reintegrated into the West Indies ODI setup as part of CWI's strategic build-up towards the 50-Over World Cup in October and November next year,” CWI said in a statement.

A proven finisher in white-ball cricket, Hetmyer has represented West Indies in 57 ODIs since making his debut in 2017. He has scored 1543 runs in the format, including five centuries, at an average of 31.48 and a strike rate of 105.39.

Hetmyer also featured for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026, making seven appearances. He has played a total of 94 IPL matches, scoring 1560 runs at an average of 27.37 and a strike rate of 149.28.

The ODI series against Sri Lanka begins on June 3 at Sabina Park, with the remaining matches scheduled for June 6 and June 8.

The two teams will also play three T20Is in Jamaica before concluding the tour with a two-match Test series in Antigua. RR’s Dasun Shanaka is part of Sri Lanka’s T20 squad.
