Shimron Hetmyer produced a sensational unbeaten 111 off just 43 balls to power Guyana to a nine-run win over Trinbago in a rain-shortened T20 league match in Port of Spain on Monday.
Hetmyer, who plays for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, walked in with Guyana under pressure at 19/2 in the fourth over after the early dismissals of Glenn Phillips and Shai Hope.
The left-hander was on two when rain interrupted play with Guyana at 22/2 after 4.3 overs. The contest was subsequently reduced to 16 overs per side and Hetmyer took charge after the resumption.
He raced to his fifty in 27 balls, having struck four fours and four sixes, before shifting gears considerably in the latter stages of the innings.
Hetmyer reached three figures in just 40 deliveries, equalling the record for the fastest century in the history of the tournament.
The 29-year-old batter eventually finished unbeaten on 111 from 43 balls at a strike rate of 258.13, having smashed eight fours and nine sixes.
The innings also took Hetmyer past 7000 runs in T20 cricket. He became the ninth West Indian player to reach the landmark and now has 7096 runs from 352 T20 matches at an average of 26.67 and a strike rate of 145.05.
Romario Shepherd provided the late impetus at the other end with an unbeaten 27 off seven deliveries as Guyana finished on 185/5 from their 16 overs.
Trinbago were set a revised target of 182 and finished on 172/7 from their 16 overs, falling nine runs short.
The century was Hetmyer's second in T20 cricket. His first also came for Guyana in the same T20 league in 2018.
The hard-hitting left-hander has also been in impressive form for the West Indies this year. He scored 248 runs in seven matches at the 2026 T20 World Cup at an average of 41.33 and a strike rate of 186.47.
Hetmyer has been a key part of the Rajasthan Royals' middle order since joining the franchise in 2022 and has regularly been entrusted with the finishing role.
Across five seasons with the Royals, Hetmyer has scored 1043 IPL runs in 63 matches at an average of 28.18 and a strike rate of 148.36.
Overall, Hetmyer has amassed 1560 runs in 94 IPL matches at a strike rate of 149.28.
