Shimron Hetmyer rose to the occasion on Sunday night, producing a trademark destructive knock to fire Guyana to a 64-run victory over Barbados in the ongoing T20 league in the Caribbean.
Playing his 300th career T20 match, the left-hander struck a composed yet commanding 68 off 39 deliveries to earn Player of the Match honours at the Providence Cricket Stadium and help his team enter Qualifier 1.
Hetmyer, who represents Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, walked in at a tricky juncture with Guyana at 114/3 in the 14th over.
He steadied the innings before unleashing his trademark strokeplay to bring up his fifty in just 34 deliveries. Hetmyer’s innings was laced with eight fours and three sixes and was scored at a brisk strike rate of 174.35.

Hetmyer’s acceleration in the death overs – he scored 17 runs in his last six balls – proved decisive as Guyana finished on 189/6, a total Barbados never came close to chasing down.
Barbados were bundled out for 125 in 18.2 overs, handing Guyana a comprehensive win and a top-two finish in the league stage.
The innings was yet another reminder of Hetmyer’s ability to step up in big moments. Earlier this year, he lit up a T20 league in the United States with 340 runs in eight matches at a staggering strike rate of 209.87, including an unbeaten 97 against New York.
In the IPL 2025, too, Hetmyer chipped in with 239 runs for Rajasthan Royals at a strike rate of 145.73.
Hetmyer, who had also scored a brisk 65 earlier in the Caribbean tournament, has 5934 T20 runs to his name, scored at a strike rate of 141.92 and an average of 26.60.
