Skipper Sanju Samson etched his name into the history books by becoming the first player to score 4000 runs for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The milestone came during the Royals’ final match of the 2025 season against Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday.

After walking in to bat in the fourth over with the score on 37/1, Samson scored a composed 41 off 31 balls to help guide the Royals to a six-wicket win. His knock included three fours and a couple of sixes.
With 4027 runs in 149 IPL matches for the team, Samson is the Royals’ leading run-getter in the league. He’s also hit two centuries and 23 fifties for RR in the IPL and has scored his runs at an average of 31.70 and a strike rate of 141.24.
Overall, Samson has made 4219 in 155 matches for the Royals. While the majority of his runs for RR have come in the IPL, he also made 192 in the now-defunct Champions League Twenty20.
Samson’s best season as a batter in the IPL came in 2024 when he scored 531 runs at an average of 48.27 and a strike rate of 153.46.
Since his debut in 2013, Samson has been an integral member of the Royals squad. As skipper, Samson led Rajasthan Royals in the final of IPL 2022, which was the team’s first appearance in the summit clash since the inaugural season in 2008 when RR won the title.
