Fast bowler Avesh Khan has been added to Team India's Test squad for the 2nd Test against South Africa, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Friday. The 2nd Test kicks off on January 3 at Cape Town. South Africa are currently leading the 2-match series by 1-0.

The Royals pacer was part of the India A side for the unofficial four-day matches against the Proteas. In the 2nd unofficial Test, Avesh grabbed a crucial five-wicket haul that helped the visitors restrict South Africa A to 263 in the first innings. Having been a consistent performer with the red ball in domestic cricket, Avesh now comes into the senior team as a replacement for the injured Mohammed Shami, who has been ruled out of the series.
