Ankit Rajpoot is the latest addition to the Royals Family. A right-arm pacer, Rajpoot is a smart operator in the T20 format. Having made his IPL debut in 2013, he has vast experience in the league and some amazing performances to back all the talent he brings to the table. Rajpoot has played for CSK, KKR and KXIP in the past, and joins Rajasthan Royals for the 2020 season. Very recently, Rajpoot has gone on to make a record his own. He needed just 2 overs to take a 5-fer during the ongoing Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Playing for his state team, Uttar Pradesh, he claimed 5/17 against Tripura. He is one of only two bowlers in the history of recognised T20 cricket to do so in 2 overs. And this very man is now a Rajasthan Royals boy. The other bowler to achieve this feat is Rashid Khan, who claimed a 5-fer in a T20I against Ireland. Ankit Rajpoot is no stranger to claiming wickets in heaps in T20 cricket. He is the only Indian bowler with three 5-wicket hauls to his name. One of his most celebrated spells came against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018. Kane Williamson, Shikhar Dhawan, WriddhimanSaha, Manish Pandey & Mohammad Nabi – that is 62 international, 2 IPL and 1 Champions League T20 centuries between the five of them. Ankit Rajpoot got rid of all of them in one game. His figures of 5/14 are the best by an uncapped Indian player in the IPL. Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Rajpoot is 25, he started his IPL journey with Chennai Super Kings back in 2013, the illustrious Ricky Ponting was Ankit’s maiden wicket in the IPL. Rajpoot moved on to the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2016 and represented Kings XI Punjab for the past two years, before being traded to the Rajasthan Royals. Rajpoot won plenty of accolades after UP’s title winning run in the 2016 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was the third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 14 scalps. He got his chances at the top levels at a young age and joins the Royals with tonnes of experience in his kitty. He is just shyof hitting the 100-wickets milestone in T20s, and with the form he is currently in, he might cross the landmark in the current Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy itself. We are his fourth IPL team, and we certainly hope that, at Rajasthan Royals, Ankit will create lots of fond memories that he can share with his grandchildren. We are glad to have this talent in the Royals Family.
