Following a shaky start to our Vivo IPL 2019 campaign, we hosted Chennai Super Kings at the SMS in the reverse fixture. The one in Chennai was a nail-biter and this one was nothing short of it either. Mitchell Santner hit a six off the last ball as Chennai Super Kings crossed the finish line with 4 wickets in hand. A heart-breaking result in Jaipur for the men in pink. After an explosive start to our innings, we faltered in the middle as we lost a few wickets while trying to up the ante. However, a flurry of boundaries in the last over meant that we reached a score of 151 for the loss of 7 wickets. Shreyas Gopal’s hitting propelled us to a decent target on a pitch that had something for the spinners and the seamers. We got off to the best possible start in our bid to defend the total. Dhawan Kulkarni claimed his 10th wicket against CSK with a peach of a delivery, cleaning up Watson. That was followed up by a brilliant run-out by Jofra to get Raina out. But all eyes were on Ben Stokes who pulled off a blinder at point, as Jadhav cut a short ball off Jofra. The ball look destined to hit the boundary ropes but Stokes, in full stretch, caught the ball with both his hands! After the initial stutter, MS Dhoni and Ambati Rayadu steadied the ship for CSK, adding 95 runs for the 5th wicket. Just as they were about to hit the 5th gear, Rayadu got off to another stunning catch, this time by Shreyas Gopal! Jofra Archer kept it tight in the 19th Over, giving away 12 runs, owing to a lucky boundary off the last ball. With 18 runs to defend off the last over, we didn’t get off to the best of starts as Jadeja hit a freak six straight down the ground. After bowling a no ball, Stokes got Dhoni out with a near-perfect yorker. There was some confusion in the middle owing to an apparent waist high no ball, but it was adjudged a legal delivery at the end of it. With 4 runs needed off the last ball, Stokes bowled a wide. The last ball was hit for a six by Santner as CSK beat us by 4 wickets.
