Leg-break bowler Ravi Bishnoi was Rajasthan Royals’ first purchase at ₹7.20 crore during the IPL 2026 auction at Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

The Royals were involved in a fierce bidding war with the Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad but managed to secure the services of the 25-year-old leggie.

Bishnoi bolsters the Royals’ spin department, which has Ravindra Jadeja in their ranks, for the upcoming Indian Premier League season.

Ravi Bishnoi, who is often quick in the air and uses the googly effectively, returns to his home state of Rajasthan. However, he currently plays for Gujarat in the domestic circuit.

At the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Bishnoi took nine wickets in seven matches at an economy of 8.40 for Gujarat.

His first experience on the international stage came with the India U19 team in the T20 World Cup 2020, where he finished as the top-wicket taker in the tournament with 17 scalps.

Ravi Bishnoi has played 166 matches in his T20 career and has represented India in 42 games since his international debut in 2022. His career-best figures of 4/13 came against Zimbabwe in 2024.

Late in 2023, Bishnoi became the No. T20I bowler in the world in the ICC rankings after he became India's go-to bowler with the Player of the Series performance against Australia. He picked nine wickets in five games against the Aussies at 18.22.

In all, Bishnoi has taken 194 T20 wickets at 23.77 and an economy rate of 7.54. In T20Is, he has 61 scalps at 19.37 apiece and 7.35 runs per over. He has also played in a solitary ODI for India.

Bishnoi, in fact, made his T20 debut for the Rajasthan cricket team in the 2018-19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

In the IPL, Ravi Bishnoi has played 77 matches for Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants, with whom he spent the last four seasons. He has taken 72 wickets at an average of 31.06 and an economy rate of 8.21. His best bowling figures in the IPL is 3/24, which he delivered for PBKS in 2021.
