The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday announced the list of shortlisted nominees for the ICC Awards 2023 across various categories. Star Indian batter and Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been nominated in the 'Men's Emerging Cricketer' category, alongside New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra, Proteas pacer Gerald Coetzee and Sri Lankan quick Dilshan Madhushanka.

"A pair of exciting fast bowlers and two classy left-hand batters are in the running for ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year honours for 2023", the ICC said on its official website.

22-year-old Yashasvi is coming off a stellar year, with a breakout performance in IPL 2023 for Rajasthan Royals, where he amassed his career-best tally of 625 runs, including his maiden IPL century. He then went on to make his Test debut for India against the West Indies, where he racked up his first international hundred in the first Test and ended up bagging the 'Player of the Match' award. With his glorious knock of 171, Yashasvi became the 17th Indian to score a century on Test debut and smashed a host of other records on the way.

The southpaw carried his red-ball form into the limited-overs series against the same opponent, scoring a blazing 84* in his debut T20I series. He was also the star performer in India's historic first Asian Games campaign in Guangzhou, China. In the quarter-final, Yashasvi's swashbuckling debut T20I century was followed by match-winning half-centuries in the semi-final and the final, which set the tone for India's victorious finish as gold medallists.

Jaiswal is currently part of India's Test team that is playing a two-match series against South Africa.
