Dasun Shanaka became just the fourth Sri Lankan batter to complete 2000 T20I runs during the third and final match of the WI vs SL T20 2026 series at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, on Sunday.

The former Sri Lankan cricket team captain reached the milestone during a 13-ball 16 that included a four and a six against the West Indies.

Batting in his 134th match, Shanaka took his T20 career tally to 2008 runs at an average of 20.91 and a strike rate of 129.63.

Only Pathum Nissanka (2699), Kusal Mendis (2694) and Kusal Perera (2335) have scored more T20I runs for Sri Lanka.

Shanaka also has 46 wickets to his name and famously captained Sri Lanka to the Asia Cup title in 2022.

The 34-year-old Shanaka, who plays for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, is Sri Lanka’s most-capped T20I cricketer and leads the country's all-time six-hitting charts in the format with 112 maximums.

His contribution on Sunday helped support top-scorer Dunith Wellalage, who struck 43 off 28 balls, as Sri Lanka recovered from 88/5 in the 11th over to post 169.

West Indies, however, completed a five-wicket victory with two balls to spare to seal the three-match series 2-1.

Shimron Hetmyer, who also represents the Royals in IPL, led the chase with a brisk 32 off 19 balls, striking three fours and two sixes after the hosts had lost captain Shai Hope in the opening over.

Shanaka finished as the leading run-scorer of the series with 96 runs from three matches.

The Rajasthan Royals star had earlier starred in Sri Lanka’s victory in the second T20I, smashing 58 off just 24 balls and earning the Player of the Match award.

His half-century came in 19 deliveries, equalling his own record for the fastest T20I fifty by a Sri Lankan.
