Royals Come Back Roaring

Learning from the game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Rajasthan Royals roared back with a clinical show in their second match of the Vivo Indian Premier League 2018, against the Delhi Daredevils. While the Royals have just about started finding their feet at this initial stage of the tournament, the early signs have been very encouraging as many players have already put up a good show. Some of the performances by the Royals players which has caught the attention of everyone are as follows:

Sanju Samson

When the going gets tough the tough gets going. Sanju Samson was the standout performer for the Royals in their maiden match of the IPL season 11. He came into bat in a tricky situation where the royals lost their opener early on in the innings. However, he showed maturity by playing an innings of class under immense pressure. The wickets falling around him certainly did not help the team, but it did not seem to affect his game at all.

In the first match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Samson was a little subdued in his approach, but he more than made up for it in the second match against the Delhi Daredevils. He unleashed a wide array of shots to score a quick fire 37 of 22 balls. This was just the kind of impetus that the Royals needed to boost their run rate. It was largely on the back of this impressive innings the Rajasthan Royals looked set for a high score before the rain halted play causing an early close to the innings. Samson will look to build on these two performances and hopefully play many a long innings in the remainder of the tournament.

Ajinkya Rahane

A captain has a massive role to play in the shortest format of the game. Not only does he have the responsibility of coming out with new and innovative strategies to outdo the opposition but he also needs to encourage and inspire the rest of the team. This is exactly what Ajinkya Rahane did in the match against the Delhi Daredevils. Rahane led by example with a fine batting display. The Royal team management knew the importance of starting the match and the innings well. The captain took control and ensured that Rajasthan Royals started well and kept control throughout. He played the role of a sheet anchor around whom other stroke makers played. A well compiled innings of 45 of 40 balls meant that the boys in blue always knew that the innings was under control.

Jos Buttler

There are few players around the world who can create havoc towards the end of the inning like Jos Buttler. He has played many a crucial innings for his country and franchises and won them games with his power packed batting. When the Royals picked him during the auctions they were hoping for him to continue his fireworks. Buttler did just that with an explosive cameo of 29 of 18 balls. In his brief innings he peppered the bowlers regularly by hitting two sixes and two fours. A short but crucial innings in which Buttler had a strike rate in excess of 160, proved that he could be used in different positions whenever there is a need to up the ante.

Ben Laughlin

There is a very popular saying that there is no substitute for experience in cricket. This point was once again proven right by one of the most experienced bowlers in T20 cricket at this moment. In a rain curtailed match against the Delhi Daredevils, defending a score of 71 in 6 overs could have been difficult if wickets were not taken. Ben Laughlin brought all his experience into play to take two crucial wickets to hand Rajasthan Royals a massive advantage in the match. He broke the back of the chase with the wicket of the dangerous Glenn Maxwell who could have taken the game away from the Royals. He followed this up by dismissing another power hitter in the form of Vijay Shankar. These blows were so strong that Delhi never managed to recover as they fell 11 short of their target.

The win gave the Royals fans much to cheer about as the Rajasthan Royals team marked their return to the Sawai Man Singh Stadium with an impressive win. They will look to build on this performance and put together a string of wins. The team will also look to make the Sawai Man Singh Stadium their fortress once again and make it very difficult for the visiting teams. With an away match against a star studded Royal Challengers team next, followed by a home game against the well-balanced Kolkata Knight Riders team coming up, the Rajasthan Royals will be at the top of their game and fight fire with fire. Halla Bol!
